With our newly purchased land, our apple crop grew significantly in size which gave way to the introduction of pick-your-own in the early 1960's. At that time, we had only five different varieties of apples to choose from. Since the 1970's, we have continually increased our apple selection and jumped from the original five varieties to now more than 50 varieties.
Slowly, the abundant, fertile land became used for the addition of other crops. Today, we grow hundreds of varieties of fruits and vegetables and offer many of them to our pick-your-own customers. (For a full list of all the fruits and vegetables we grow, please click here).
The Samascott Family
Although Oliver Samascott passed away in 1995, his dream of a family-run farm was realized and passed on to his two sons, Ron and Gary Samascott. Both Ron and Gary have worked on the farm almost as long as they have been walking. Oliver's wife, Elsie Samascott, continues to help on the farm, offering guidance and suggestions even as she climbs into her early 90's.
Of course, the farm could not be managed without the help of Ron and Gary's children. Gary's oldest son, Bryan, has been working full-time on the farm for nearly a decade already. You will rarely see Bryan behind the counter because he spends his days in the field; either planting, tilling, harvesting or watering to keep the crops growing. Gary's youngest son, Jeremy, has taken over the work of Samascott's Garden Market, where we now sell thousands of annuals, perennials and hanging baskets each year. Gary's only daughter, Krista, is a well-needed addition to the crew. She can be found wherever the most help is needed, either on the farm in the summer and fall, or at our Garden Market during the busy spring. Ron's sons, Jake and Luke, are both full-time employees, quickly taking the reins of the family business. The oldest son, Jake, spends more time than he would like in the office paying bills and keeping us organized. Meanwhile the younger son, Luke, spends his time completing every and any job needed at the Garden Market or the orchard. Jake and Luke also help with the farmer's markets in New York City, often making several trips a week. Ron's daughters, Kayla and Jody, have ventured to warmer lands, now residing in Hawaii and California. Both girls still have the farm in their hearts and hope to make west coast additions to Samascott Orchards in the future!
The Samascott Family would like to say "Thank you!" to all of our valued customers. To those of you who have not yet visited us, we hope to see you soon!

The Orchard
Samascott Ochards is a family owned and operated farm that was started in the early 1900's. In its early days, the farm was like most other farms of its time. Many crops were grown, but dairy products and caring for dairy cows were the main focus.
During the period from the 1940's through the early 1960's, the second generation owner, Oliver Samascott, increased the size of the farm from its original 180 acres to our present 1,000 acres. Much of this newly purchased land had existing apple orchards and by 1970 the focus of the farm shifted from dairy to apples.
